Historical Data of the Hotel and Town of Gamboa
- Hotel Gamboa was designed to evoke the historic Hotel Tivoli, which was located on the slopes of Cerro Ancon and was originally built to host President Theodore Roosevelt.
- Each room is carefully designed to offer exclusive views of the historic Chagres River, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the surroundings.
- The lobby features an impressive three-level atrium, where vines, lush shrubs and an artificial waterfall create a welcoming, eco-friendly atmosphere that complements the natural charm of the reserve.
- The iconic Gamboa Bridge, originally built in 1908, served only as a railroad crossing until automobile lanes were added when the town was founded.
- The exact origin of the name "Gamboa" is not clear, but by the late 1800's it was already appearing on maps. It is believed that it was the name of a Hato or Finca, probably owned by someone with that surname.
- The community also played a vital role in the Apollo space missions, as the astronauts - including Neil Armstrong - conducted jungle training in San Antonio, guided by local cacique Antonio Zarco.
